San Juan La Laguna

20 min boat ride to San Juan La Laguna. The lake was very choppy and we took a beating. Upon arrival we were immediately struck by how colourful the town was. We first met our homestay families. Each pair of us went with one family in the town. We were met by Marcos who took us to their nice but basic home. It's shaped like a horseshoe with bedrooms on the middle side, the kitchen on the right, and bathrooms on the left. In the middle is their garden and dining area. Then we met up with the group again for an afternoon of touring around the town to see various products and crafts that they produce including honey, cacoa, healing plants, paintings, and textiles. I bought some scarves. In the evening we had dinner (traditional chicken in tomato sauce with carrots and potatoes with rice) with our respective families and watched some live local music in the square. Did a sunrise hike and had a typical Mayan breakfast.
