Volcan Pacaya

Hiked a volcano today. 8am start, 1.5 hr drive by private minivan (best transport of the trip). We hiked up about 400m to just short of 2300m elevation. From there the Volcan Pacaya towered right in front of us, with a big lava field. On the other side of the ridge we were on were two more volcanoes in the distance (one called Agua, the other one Fuego which was spewing some gases out the top), the outskirts of Guatemala City and two lakes. What a sight. We got to hike down through the lava field where we roasted some marshmallows and hunted for colourful rocks.
